El Nino has ended. La Nina conditions now present in tropical Pacific.

Last winter's moderate to strong El Nino has ended, with sea-surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean rapidly cooling to below normal. La Nina (cooler than normal tropical Pacific Ocean sea-surface temperatures) has developed, with most computer models forecasting the conditions to strengthen this autumn and last at least through this coming winter.Forecast Sept-Nov 2010 (Based on 1958, 1964, 1966, 1973, 2007).
- Near average temperatures indicated for the 3-month period.
- Elevated chance of a wet November skew the 3 month precipitation anomaly above normal (mainly west).
- Increased chance of windstorms (west) and early season mountain snowfall.
Preview Winter 2010-11.
- Above average mountain snow.
- Above average low-elevation snow and valley rain, with an increased chance of valley snow and/or flooding.
- Increased threat of windstorms (west).
- Increased threat of Arctic intrusions.
