Portland man saves family -- barely -- from carbon monoxide poisoning

It was just before midnight Tuesday night when Rodney Gunther, his wife Teresa Farrell, and their 10-year-old daughter Kelly Gunther returned to their Sellwood home from a Hawaiian vacation.

It was cold in the house, so Gunther, 61, fired up the furnace and the gas fireplace insert in the foursquare, which is in the 1500 block of Southeast Lambert Street. Then everyone went to bed.
